Responsible Land Use
It all began with an idea of public access to urban green spaces.
Friends of Rocky Butte seek to steward existing forest land in the heart of Portland. This area is historically rich, geologically interesting, ecologically active and recreationally unrealized. The eastern slope of Rocky Butte has many trails and features, however a majority of the foot traffic is from people living outside along the paths. By transferring this land to a public agency that can open recreational opportunities there could be a shift to foot traffic of walkers, cyclists rock climbers and more.
